No wonder they are all ugly, people with a social life spend their time going on dates or practicing a hobby instead of talking bullshit about their feelings being hurt over a Halloween e-mail. Get a life losers, real life will hit you like a rock and no boss will take this “safe space” crap from any of you bunch of pussies.

look @ 1:21, when that one guy says “show him some respect” and all those SJWs whip their heads around. then he goes on to say “He listens to you when you speak” and they have a freaking heart attack. must have been such a wake up call for them to realise not all of them are the same. those nasty rats even said “Are you serious” when he asked for them to show respect, when they’re the ones who demand it all the time. shows their blatant hypocrisy.

Holy shit, that girl is an asshole. She’s just insulting him as he listens to the whole spiel and then she bitches that he’s not listening??? UH WHAT???
Then he tries to have a turn and respond and she power trips and just shuts him down by talking over him? I’m sure they see it as justified, reverse man-splaining, lol, but you can’t fight inequality by treating others just as unequally, it’s universally stupid.
Meanwhile, the majority of sane people, want no part of this outrage economy debate and just want to enjoy some festivities with friends and share a laugh.

He has too much patience. I would have just laughed in her face and told them all to fuck off.

So this is Yale University, the place for your best and the brightest? THIS is the Elite of America’s future?
Sorry, Americans, you’re doomed.

As someone who identifies as progressive and values social justice I find this video (and the story that precedes it mind you) deeply disturbing. Rather than approach what is a difficult conversation about cultural appropriation with open minds and open hearts you made immediate assumptions about their character and built a racist strawman out of Nick so you could tear him down in public as a mob. The response to their email was immediately aggressive and confrontational when it so easily could’ve been assertive and still made its point in a considered tone. Your words still have the capacity to pack power and mean something without hostility behind them, this is a lesson that you could all learn from. Luther King Jr was angry with the injustice faced by black people and people in poverty. He was angry at the legacy of slavery and policies that continued to segregate and divide. But he didn’t scream and kick and stamp and shout and jump down people’s throats for making misguided statements, and he didn’t demand apologies from those with good intentions who had otherwise erred in his eyes. He educated and explained and reasoned and spoke eloquently and passionately about the African American cause. He was angry but he was civil and he saw the good in people. He educated those who otherwise had good intentions.
You have every right to feel anger about the historical and continued treatment of black people in the US, the rates of disproportional incarceration and poverty are akin in some places to modern day slavery. Cultural appropriation can absolutely fall under the umbrella of imperial subjugation of cultures and your concern is not entirely misplaced. But you are not going to change hearts and minds and help people if you throw a tantrum at the slightest grievance, especially from people who have shown they are open minded and willing to listen. You are only going to embolden those against you in numbers, those who have irrationality and hatred in their heart will use examples like this to further their own cause. While crucially those who are supportive of social justice, racial equality and the fight for progressive causes will be turned off associating with you and you lose the capacity to mobilise support into a broader coalition.
I sincerely hope any of the students watching take the time to reason with this and engage, I know it is natural and I think wise to reject the wave of criticism I’m sure you’ve been subjected to (a great deal of it is no doubt ill-intentioned and racist), but I think there are also valid criticisms from many people such as myself who recognise your commitment to justice but feel your approach is awfully misplaced and at risk of damaging hopes of a wider movement.

I would gladly take a spot at Yale for all these ungrateful people.

This whole controversy was because the professor and his wife were Masters of Silliman College. A residential hall at Yale. Some students were outraged that his wife sent out an email that students could wear whatever they want for Halloween and that young people should be allowed to outrage, shock and maybe even offend with their costume. The leftists wanted rules against dressing as a person of any race or ethnicity that you are not. In other words, instead of pretending to be someone else, you must dress exactly as you are. Except of course, if it is to attack the right, dressing as Reagan or Bush as an idiot or murderer is OK.

“..you should know my name”
yeah, because every professor needs to memorize 500+ student names every semester…
