Thanks for all the helpful tips!! I just began my second year of community college in the Caribbean and im kinda lost about some things. Firstly, when doing ECs does the head of the group have to provide some sort of letter of a recommendation? Like for example would someone have to write something for me if I am tutoring students for free? Or would I just have to write a paragraph or essay regarding my extra curricular activities?
Secondly, I know this is a little off topic but the SAT is the only standardized test offered in my area. It wasn’t required by my high school because in the Caribbean we do CXC exams instead. Do you think I should do the SAT while at my college in order to get a scholarship when applying to colleges in abroad (specifically the US)? Or do you suggest that I should just focus on doing well at my community college? Also, I am interested in transferring to study medicine in the States next year Fall. Your advice will be greatly appreciated. PS – sorry for the long paragraph.

Your channel is so useful – I’ve been dreaming of going to the US for uni (especially Stanford) ! I’m only just going into year 11 but want to be prepared so I can hopefully be accepted !
I do have a few questions however if that’s ok?
1. I’m predicted 5 9s (A*+) 3 8s (A*) and 2 7/8s (A/A*s), do you think this would be good enough?
2. How early did you sit your SATS and ACTs ? What sort of age would you recommend? What age did you start preparing ?
3. I play soccer 5 times a week, act as a volunteer coach twice a week (am going to hopefully be qualified in a few months), act as a leader on summer camps , I was also going to start helping out at a care home- do you recommend anything else ?
I’ve watched so many of your videos they’re so useful !! Thank you x

Liked the video, before even watching

Life Explorist · August 24, 2017 at 11:22 am

Hey! Great video as always! Sadly in my school and community there aren’t many ECs which might hurt my app. I play basketball although we don’t even have a varsity team and i barely managed to find a volunteering oppurtunity
Anw Keep it up!

Would you say that students who decide to do IB are more likely to be accepted than those that choose A level

reeya bharadwaj · August 25, 2017 at 9:00 am

Hey Jasmin! Your videos are so helpful!
I’ve done quite a lot of ECs , in pretty much all the areas you mentioned. My problem is that I have a low gpa in the 11th grade. I did have a perfect gpa in the 9th and 10th grade, but I want to become an architect,so I focused more on stuff related to it. Also, I won’t be able to send my 12th grade gpa as I would be applying before I get my results. Do you think this is a big problem?
Thanks a lot! 🙂

“Im not a fantastic soccer player” *wins all the football awards*

Mahir Amer · August 25, 2017 at 5:32 pm

Hey Jasmin,
So I was really passionate about basketball from grade 9 through 10
Won with my team too
But then I feel in love with football (actually have a story on that) and now I practice that. Now, in all of this, I had to begin anew and it was a real challenge for me. My question here is, how do I show all this? I know the common app only allows for a few lines of description per activity. That’s not gonna cut it.
I was hoping to write about art on my personal statement since that resonates most with who I am and from your video, I know that your personal statement wasn’t about any particular activity either. So, how did you show your struggles? More specifically, where did you talk about them?

maame serwaa Awuah · August 27, 2017 at 5:52 am

Congrats on Stanford! Please do a Stanford vlog, and q&a

Hannah Sheehy · August 27, 2017 at 8:44 am

Thank you so much! As an international student as well your advice is so helpful! Congratulations on getting in! I hope to see lot’s more videos all year round, and in 2 years when I have to do university applications. 🙂

Hi Jasmin! I have some questions about ECs.
As I want to become a Dance major, and Dance is what I am passionate about, my whole school life I´ve only taken Dance as extracurricular activities, and Musical Theater too. This year (senior year) I decided to join the ecological club/team. Do you think my extracurricular´s journey is wrong? What do you think I should take?

Damian Lee · September 7, 2017 at 11:52 pm

Nitya Jagadam · September 8, 2017 at 1:27 pm

Karen Liao · October 17, 2017 at 4:40 pm

hi jasmine, I am participating in debate and MUN club, do you think I should continue to devote myself in those two clubs or should I find another club since both of them are about “academic and speaking”?
Thank you;)))
