I’m surprised you did as well with your common app essay as you did, it just seemed so contrived, there’s no way your three year old self had such complex thoughts. I also thought it was kind of silly to refer to things you achieve by speaking english as “metaphorical juice boxes.” I think that really trivializes them.

When writing a personal statement it has to be written from your personal experiences. It is critical to be able to convey all the emotions, thoughts, and ideas that were occurring during that personal experience. It is easier said than done. You may have to write a few drafts before you feel confident that you have conveyed your ideas clearly. You may have to ask: What am I saying through this essay? Is there a core idea that I am communicating through my essay. Is this idea powerful and important enough? Why do I want to communicate this to the admissions officers? When you can answer these basic questions, you are ready to communicate your ideas by writing them in an essay. You must be inspired to write a successful essay. Find your muse! 🚀🤾♂️
