I actually think this is terrible advice. Â It discounts how truly unfair the meritocratic processes in place in our current educational paradigm actually are. Â Students have a right to their anxiety, because so much of the decent quality of life they’d like to hope for DOES hinge on things like their SAT scores. Â It’s part of the misery of living in capitalist America. Â
You tell students that they shouldn’t worry about it because “this is just one small blip” of many, which means if they still fail and can’t get a decent job one day it’s all their fault because, my gosh, look at allllllll of the chances you gave them, right? “What sort of loser still fails after we’ve made it soooooo idiot proof”, that is the grotesque message underpinning this video and it’s why students dose themselves with adderall and have anxiety attacks, because you would rather they mold themselves into something impossible than change the education paradigm and make the system less focused on meritocracy and more focused on actually learning.
You and your easy smile, and your Disney references, represent everything wrong with education. Â Universities are places where people smile at you through their teeth as they screw you over for a life time.
