Can you write about a sad story in your life~

Heather Tomasello · July 8, 2013 at 11:45 pm

You certainly can write about a sad story! The most important aspect is to connect with your audience. You also don’t want it to be a “pity party”-you still want to be the hero in the story. I would think poignant or even ending on a hopeful note if the story is sad.

just wondering, does this qualify for any college of your choice, or just to certain colleges. If so, what types of colleges mainly accepts this?

Heather Tomasello · August 6, 2013 at 7:12 pm

This is general advice and applies to most colleges. I worked for a large top-tier state university in admissions and now counsel students applying to all different types of universities from small to large, Ivy League to community college.

so I know this video is late but I got a question witch one weighs more. Obviously the school can change the answer, but which one is more important being good in grades, or in sports( and I’m not talking like straight F’s and being a football all-star) more like all C’s and maybe a couple B’s, you know a 2.8 GPA average, also lets say you got a D in a class that is as far off from that colleges study Ex: lets say you got a D in Spanish but your math and other grades are good, and your college of choice is an engineering, will they really care? that is all I wanted to ask

Good grades, good test scores, money.

I have a question, i’m a very good writer and English is my best subject. However, I had a rough three years and I’m going into my senior year and because of that I just blew off homework to sleep when I got home in my depression state which caused me to get all C’s in my class like I understood the material but homework counts a lot if my extracurriculars and volunteer an essay are good do you think I could get into competitive schools such as Boston university, U Pitt, or university of Virginia?
